2017 CANADA $10 Fine Silver Coin - Celebrating Canada's 150th - Common Loon |
Based on an image by Canadian nature photographer Jim Cumming, the first coin in your subscription transports the viewer to one of Ontario's many lakes, where an iconic common loon (Gavia immer) has set up its summer home. Gliding across the glassy surface of its habitat, the loon tilts upwards in the water to stretch its wings, which offers the viewer a better glimpse of its remarkable wing feathers. The application of vibrant colour recreates the life-like qualities of the original photograph and captures the loon in fine detail, from its checkered plumage to the unique black-and-white collar beneath its jet-black head. The engraving brings a beautiful element of dimension to the overall design, which truly conveys the wild, untamed beauty of Ontario's lakes. The reverse also features the engraved word "CANADA" and the dates "1867-2017" to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Confederation
