1924 florin - beginnings of a shattered die
Going through a date set of florins for a friend, I found the 1924 florin worthy of a closer look. It's got a nasty case of the cracks - all the way from the 'roo's tail, under the main legend around to the emu's back, then down around through the date. There are cracks and chips radiating out from this, notably from the base of the E in ONE and between TWO and SHILLINGS.

This is a subvariety of the "crossless 4" variety.

This major die crack is listed in the Australian varieties and errors catalogues, rated as "rare" in McConnelly.
